公鸡叫作‘rooster’,母鸡叫作‘hen’。
Rule the roost
‘Rule the roost’的意思是负责,主管。
"At this poultry farm, the owner's children rule the roost."

在澳大利亚,我们也会用俚语‘chooks’来指代鸡。因此,习语‘running around like a headless chicken’也可以表示为‘running around like a headless chook’。
这个习语的意思是非常忙碌地东奔西走,在同一时间做很多的事情。
A: "You look tired, are you ok?"

B: "Oh I have been running around like a headless chook. I just haven't had a break."

Couldn't run a chook raffle
当我们说某人‘couldn’t run a chook raffle’,这表示这个人没有组织规划事情的能力。
"She didn't have enough experience in running a food truck business. She couldn't run a chook raffle."
“她没有足够的经验经营一个食物卡车生意。她没有规划事情的能力。”
Don't count your chickens before they hatch
当我们说‘don’t count your chickens before they hatch’时,这表示你不应该根据尚未发生的好结果来计划事情。
"You have not received the results of your English test but you're already throwing your book away. Don't count your chickens before they hatch! You may need those books again."

“你还没收到你英语考试的结果呢,你就把你的书扔了。不要根据还没取得的好结果来计划事情!你可能还会需要那些书的!”
Mother hen
当我们想说某人非常照顾并留意每个人的时候,我们可以说他像一只‘mother hen’。
"She's the mother hen in the group. We know we are always looked after with her around."
“她是这群人中的‘老母鸡’。我们知道在她身边就总会被照顾着。”
"Our captain was such a mother hen. He was not just our leader, he also looked out for us."
“我们的队长就像一只老母鸡。他不仅是我们的领导,他还会照顾我们。”
As rare as hen's teeth
我们可以用‘as rare as hen’s teeth’来描述极其稀有的东西。
"I wish I could find a fork in our staff kitchen, but they're as rare as hen's teeth around here."
“但愿我能在我们的员工处方里找到一把叉子,但是他们实在是太稀有了。”
